Welcome

Career Guidance

The Guidance Department endeavours to support all our pupils in their journey through secondary education. Our role involves counselling, providing information, educational guidance, career guidance, individual appointments and supporting the personal, educational, and social development of all our pupils. Pupils may wish to see the Guidance Counsellors for educational guidance, career guidance or for personal counselling. Pupils may from time to time need care, support and guidance to help them cope with particular situations or difficulties they may be encountering. We work in conjunction with the Pastoral Care Team and liaise with the Senior Management Team to provide the range of supports which a pupil may need.  The Guidance service in the school includes advice on all aspects of subject choice, Third level courses, apprenticeships and the world of work. The Career Guidance and Counselling service is designed to assist students to make choices about their lives and to make transitions following on from these choices. These choices relate to their personal, social, educational and vocational lives. Students undertake ability and achievement tests to help choose subjects and educational assessments take place to assess students' needs. Assistance is given to students at the end of 1st, 3rd and Transition year to make subject choices that will allow them to keep all options open for the career of their choice. Classes in careers are provided for senior students as well as guidance on an individual basis. Junior Guidance is provided in Wellbeing class. Students and parents are encouraged to attend seminars and College Open Days. The school guidance service organises trips for senior students to a variety of careers related events and Open Days. Guest speakers also visit the school to give career talks and information on college courses and further education opportunities.
